Cultural Weekends

An Exceptional Setting.

Masters Artists at Work.

Observe and engage first-hand with award-winning artists as they use the pure, authentic, hand-crafting techniques passed down through generations. Shop for a cause and support Cabot’s legacy of cultural respect, art, and community.

The Silveira family will be returning for the Cultural Weekends, bringing together second- and third-generation potters: Lila, Trini, and Evelin. Lila mastered the refinement of clay and developed intricate painting techniques. Trini is celebrated for the simple elegance of her pottery, and her precisely painted designs form elegant geometric patterns. Evelin, a talented third-generation potter, has showcased her work in art competitions across Mexico and is proud to have earned recognition as a promising young Mata Ortiz potter. Joining the Silveira family are Julio Mora and Alma Soto, a husband-and-wife team of second-generation potters. Over time, Julio and Alma have acquired new techniques and designs through the emergence of innovative color mixtures for both clay and paint.

Oaxaca alebrijes wood sculptures painters are Julia Fuentes and Reina Ramirez

Alebrijes, or Oaxaca wood carvings, are creatures carved out of wood and painted with patterns and designs from the artists’ creativity. Julia and Reina are known for their Zapotec designs and techniques.

Julia is a third-generation wood carving artist who learned numerous traditional techniques while working in her family’s workshop, which she continues to use today. She also incorporates her style of Zapotec symbolism to combine the past and the present.

Reina has been painting for over 30 years. Her experience is reflected in the precision of her paint designs, the beautiful mixture of colors, the expert shading, and the incorporation of Zapotec symbolism.

Reina will have a fee-based workshop where one can paint their own alebrije. Materials are included.
